Zoning Information

The Town of Kenansville is responsible for protecting our community's health, safety and welfare through effective enforcement of codes and ordinances. 

The goal of the Code Compliance Division is to provide information to all interested parties and to fairly and efficiently enforce the Town of Kenansville Code and Ordinances.

How to Apply for a Zoning Permit:

  1. Fill Out the Zoning Application – The Kenansville's Zoning Application will need to be filled out in order to start the process of being issued a Zoning Permit from the Town of Kenansville. You will need to attach copies of a site plan that shows dimensions of lot/sign and locate building by dimensions from property lines. Please include the dimensions of building, location of utilities and other applicable ordinance requirements.

  2. Prepare Your Documents – Along with the application and the site plans, you need to pay a $50.00 application fee when you turn in your zoning application. The Town of Kenansville can only take cash or check for the fee. No debit or credit cards will be accepts as a form of payment.

  3. Necessary Identification - Be ready to provide proof of ownership or lease along with a valid photo ID.

  4. Submit Your Application – Forms must be submitted in person to our Town Clerk, unless you are out-of-state. If you out-of-state, then applcations and supporting docuemnts may be submitted through email.

When do I need to fill out a Zoning Application ?

Residents could need to fill out the Town's Zoning Application for numerous reasons such as but not limited to: 

  • Building a fence around your house/property
  • Adding a building or shelter to your yard
  • Adding a porch/deck to your house
  • Building or moving a house, duplex, or apartment complex onto a piece of property within Kenansville
  • Placing a sign of significant size in your yard or at a business.

How do I know which Zoning District my property is in?

The Town of Kenasville has a Zoning Map, which divdies the properties in Kenansville into different districts. The Zoning Map can be found above in the Related Documents section labeled Kenansville Zoning Map. 

If you still need assistance identifying where your property falls, a good resource to use would be to use Duplin GIS to see where your property falls on that map. Once you locate the property on the Duplin GIS map, match up the property shape to the Town of Kenansville's Zoning Map. You should be able to determine what zone your property falls into using that method of identification.
